2. My HUDSPETH line:

Ayers Hudspeth was born April 8, 1834 in Lincoln co., North Carolina. His parents were Clemensa and George Washington Hudspeth.
Ayers Hudspeth served in the Civil War in Company C, fifth regiment Confederate Army.(No state given....source obit. and article in "Era Centenial". The only Ayers
Hudspeth, that I could find; in such a regiment and company was from Arkansas)

Ayers Hudspeth and family came to Cooke Co., Tx. in early 1890's. He married Sarah Ann Hoke in Salem, N.C. in 1867, then in 1875 left Lincoln Co., N.C. with five children, Ed,Bert, Mary, Jake, and Brack.(I am assuming that Bert is William Burton Hudspeth). A fifth child, was born somewhere in Arkansas. as they traveled toward Texas. They lived in Arkansas for a year before preceding on to Texas. They arrived some weeks later in Bonham, Fannin Co.Texas. They lived in Fannin County until 1890; at which time they came to Cooke County, Texas, and settled about two miles east of Era, Texas. They lived in Cooke county the rest of their lives.

Dec 26, 1873, Ector, Fannin Co., Tx..Married Oct 18, 1891 at the home of her father, G.W.Hodges (George Washington). d. Jan 20, 1904. Their daughter, Ninnie Ray Hudspeth married my grand father, Joseph Ransom Waggoner (Rance)
 

2. Jacob Daniel Hudspeth (Jake) b. Nov 15, 1868 in NC. d. 1938 in Tx. He married Nellie Arizona Hodges(sister of Elizabeth Tennessee Hodges) on Feb 3, 1895.

3. Mary Hudspeth b. June 10, 1870 d. Oct 19, 1910. Md. Mort Parker.

4. William Burton Hudspeth (Bert) b. Jan 29, 1872in NC. d. Jan 19, 1948

5.George  Braxton (Brack) Hudspeth b. May 31, 1874 in NC. d. Jan 10, 1928. He married Lourena McLaughlin.

6. Walter Hoke Hudspeth b. Apr 12, 1876, somewhere in Oklahoma on the way to Texas.He married Lucy Robertson.

7. Clifford Bennett Hudspeth b. Aug 6, 1879 in Fannin County, Tx.. d. 1919. He married lucy's sister, Isa Robertson.

8. Albert Earl Hudspeth b. Jun 26, 1886 in Bonham, Fannin Co. Tx.. He married first Mabel Belcher. After her suicide, he married Leta Skiles, they lived in Dallas, Tx. Dallas County. After her death, he married Ethyl Ellen Hodges (sister to the above Hodges sisters) . She had been married twice before.



3. GLASS CASTON TIMELINE

(Glass Caston and Elizabeth Wagner were my g.g.g.g. grandparents;  the parents of Elizabeth Caston who married Joseph Waggoner, my g.g.g. grandfather.

1754 Glass Caston still in Essex Co., Va. where (a cousin?) Benjamin Croxton is assigned as apprentice , at age 12, until he is 21(1763).

1754 Glass made an appearance in NC. He and John White purchase property in Hillsborough, NC--now known as Carbington. Coming from VA., Glass paid with Va. currency.

1756 Apr 18; Page 191: Deed made 19 Dist. of one part of William McDonald, planter of one part and William McDonald, planter of the other part for the sum of 10 shillings pd. by William McDonald do sell 250 acres situate on Wateree River in Craven Co.South Carolina. bounded SE by sd river, NW on vacant land when surveyed and part on John Gipson land, SW on vacant land first surveyed for Thomas Haynes 22 Sept. 1749 and granted to SAMUEL WAGGONER 18 April 1756. 1756 Dec. Glass Caston appointed constable for Orange Co.,NC.

1758 Glass sells his Corbington property to William Nunn.

1759 According to an Caston decendant, Dr. Sherburn Anderson, of Louisanna; Glass Caston and Elizabeth Wagner were married in 1759 in Orange Co., NC. (His source?)

1763 Dec 8, 1763 Glass Caston and his brother, John Caston, each bought 100 acres on Camp Creek (Lower) in Craven Co., SC.--from Ephrain Clark. (In what is now Lancaster Co., SC).

1764 May 17 & 18, Book F-3, p. 1, Lease and Release, John McKee, farmer, son and heir of William McKee, of Macklinburg Co., NC to Thomas Wade, Esq., of St. Marks Parish, SC, for 100 pds currency, 100 a. on Hanging Rock Creek, St. Marks Parish, granted 2 Jan 1754 by Gov. 1765 Glass Caston was appointed one of the seven justices in Craven Co., SC.

1765 May 13 & 14, Book F-3, p. 6, Lease and Release, Frederick Ford, shopkeeper, of St. Marks Parish, SC, to Thomas Wade, merchant, for 500 pds currency, 100 a. in St. marks Parish, on Catawba River, granted 17 Apr 1764 by Gov. 1785 Court Records the Court of Equity in South Carolina- Commissioners of Treasury vs. Glass Caston :

Brief #1 (summarized) Glass Caston was appointed tax collecter year of 1785 (or 1795)--.He was bound to make a return of taxable property of the inhabitants of the Santee dist and his own property. He neglected to perform in a strict manner the duties. He answers the want of such strictness does not arise from evil designbut was occassioned by the following causes: the confusion of the times, the general distress of poverty of the people rendered it unpleasant and difficult to collect taxes, the people suffered greatly by the war, were embarassed by depts, general want of punctuality prevails them in the country, other tax collectors were remiss, so were government officers in high stations. This defendant was uninformed as to the duties of his office, was afflicted by sickness and mental derangaement: was unfit to perform duties, when he was restored to health, set about to collect taxes, received 26 pounds, carried it to John Chestnut. He hopes to be excused and begs(?) to be dismissed with his costs.

Brief#2,That the defendant was appointed by legisture for year 1785(1795?) --that he neglected his duties--making no return made to him by inhabitants, the plantiffs are unaquainted with the amount of returns actually made, they charge that they have remained in his hands and is indepted to the state---should be paid the treasury. Plantiff plead the defendant make an oath and pay amount and a subpena to issue.

THEN the next document:-- State of SC to the sheriff of Kershaw Dist.--greetings--you are commanded to attach Glass Caston before the court of equity at Camden 3rd Monday Feb. next. there to answer comtempt Jan 1801. Then the sherriff answered: I have by Samuel Dunlap, my lawful deputy served Glass Caston with a copy of subpeana. Source: Diana Reints, roll # 46.2,

4.CHARLES PERKINS:

CHARLES PERKINS born 6 March 1742 VA to NICHOLS PERKINS and wife BETHANIA HARDING. it appears he was deceased by 1790 as his widow was paying taxes in Patrick Co., VA in 1791, the year Patrick Co was formed from Henry Co. He married Mary Tate 11 August 1760, daughter of JOSEPH TATE and ALLY HUNTER of NC, that part that later became Rockingham Co.. Mary was born 27 April 1740, died June 1820, married for the second time 9 Dec. 1792 in Pittsylvania Co., VA to SAMUEL WAGGONER.

By 1765 the family was living in Rowan Co, NC that part that became Gulliford Co., and in 1785 Rockingham Co.. There are references in the Gulliford Co. deeds that indicate that Charles and Mary (Tate) Perkins lived on a portion of his father-in-law’s tract on land on Beaver Island Creek before moving to VA. The obituary of their third child Nicholas Tate Perkins, states that he was born in Gulliford Co., Dec of 1767 and moved at the age of ten (abt. 1777) to Pittsylvania Co., VA.

1. ELLA PERKINS, b. ca. 1763, died 1831. Married 11 Dec 1782 Henro Co., VA to STEPHEN LYON. .

2. ANNA PERKINS, b. 28 July 1765 probably Rowan Co., NC; married JAMES WALKER moved to Davidson Co., Tn (which later became Rutherford Co).

3. NICHOLS TATE PERKLINS, b. 29 Dec. 1767 Rowan Co, NC (Gulliford not formed until 1771), died 6 Aug 1843 Williamsosn Co., Tn; married 1796 Jefferson Co., Tn.; ANN PERKINS , b. 10 Aug 1770, died 7 July 1839. They are buried in a family cemetery in Williamson Co., Tn having moved there in 1803.

4. BETHANIA HARDEN PERKINS, b. 1 August 1770 Rowan Co., NC. died 17 July 1812 Willaimson Co., Tn; married JAMES SNEED, b. 29 December 1764, died 20 September 1853. They are both buried in the SNEED CEMETERY , located near Brentwood, in Williamson Co., Tn.

5.MAACAH PERKINS,b. 1 June 1772, died 1852 Tuscaloosa, Alabama; married JAMES MARLOW.

6. MARY PERKINS, b. 1 August 1774 Gulliford Co., NC died 1857 in Christain Co., KY, married a MR. KING.

7. ELIAZABETH PERKINS, b. 26 Feburary 1776 Gulliford Co., NC; married ISREAL ROBINSON.

8. CHARLES PERKINS ,b. 13 March 1778 probably Pittsylvania Co., Va.,died 14 February 1813 Stokes Co., NC; married 23 January 1804 Stokes Co., NC MRS. BETHANIA HAMPTON, widow of Capt. Samuel Hampton and daughter of Col. Absalom Bostick and wife , BETHANIA PERKINS. She was born 18 March 1767, and died 1832.

PATRICK CO., VA. INFO: TAX LIST SHOW SAMUEL WAGGONER 1795 and 1796-140 acres ;1798 and 1799-140 acres and 140 acres received from CHARLES PERKINS.



5. HENRY PERKINS,Jr.

Paulas Note: "Glass Caston died before 6 July 1714 in Essex Co., Va.. His wife Cary Fargison (Ferguson, Farguson) Caston remarried to Henry Perkins,Jr. in 1720. Glass and Cary had a son John who was the father of sons John Caston and Glass Caston ( who married ELIZABETH WAGNER), and both of these sons went to Lancaster Dist., SC.."

Henry Perkins, Jr. took Cary's children by her marriage to Glass Caston, and raised them as his own. He and Cary had other children also.
