To configure Thunderbird (windows):THESE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME YOU USE VZINET to CONNECT to the internet
and BOTH your incoming and outgoing servers say mail.vzinet.com.
IF YOUR PC DOES NOT CONNECT through VZINET OR your incoming or
outgoing mail servers are NOT mail.vzinet.com - make a note of
everything your email client says! If you change the wrong
field for another email provider or ISP provider, we can not help
you resolve that! The best suggestion is to write down the
information before you change it. You would typically ONLY
need to change the information relative to mail.vzinet.com.
- Open Thunderbird
- Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Accounts Settings'
- Select Server Settings from the folder list
on the left side, it is below your email account.
- On the right side, modify the incoming server name to
pop.gmail.com AND
Update the Port value to 995.
- In the next section, Security Settings ,
select SSL from the Use secure
connection options.
- Click Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the folder
list on the left - (should be at the bottom).
- Select the (Default) entry from the
list and click Edit. The SMTP Server
page appears.
- Change the Server Name to
smtp.gmail.com and set the Port to
465 (or if it fails, 587)
Dot SSL at the bottom
Click OK to save your changes and exit the
Account Settings dialog.
- You may be asked to re-enter your password the first time
you send or receive email - just type in the password as we've
indicated to you in previous correspondence!
Congratulations! You're done configuring your client to send
and retrieve messages.
